Back on Track!

I know I said I was planning to redo my blog, but unfortunately I can’t find anyone who actually has photoshop skills and wants to help me. I reached out to someone and asked for help and needless to say, she didn’t really seem like she wanted to help me. So I am still on the hunt to make some changes.

As I previously mentioned, I have started a new job, and have been super crazy busy with it. It is a great place to work and I even get an office!! (I have to share it, but still!). It is definitely still an adjustment to get back to working a 9-5 and everyone here works really hard. I have never been part of a marketing team, so this is definitely new, but I really like that I still have a lot of PR focus (outreach, social media) and I get to learn a ton of new things (SEO, HTML). It was really hard for me to leave my last job because I had great coworkers and I miss them everyday, especially at lunch but I know this was the best move for my career.

Even though I have been gone awhile, I come bearing outfit photos! These are some highlights over the last couple weeks.

The first one is a casual fun outfit that is great for work. I paired a MANGO blue top with a contrasting tan and yellow cropped jacket from Ann Taylor Loft. Since I can wear jeans to work, I just threw on a pair of comfy Express jeggings. I accessorized by wearing beaded tribal bracelets from Old Navy in orange and tan, and a Burberry watch. Not shown, but I am wearing tan flats from Banana Republic as well. The key piece here was definitely the cropped jacket (yes, I know my sleeves are uneven, this was at the end of the day and my sister took the picture and didn’t tell me to fix it).

My sister and I went to the Michael Jordan steakhouse so of course I felt the need to wear a blazer! While you can’t tell in this photo, the blazer is actually a orange-red. I purchased it from Bebe a few weeks back and have been waiting for the perfect chance to wear it. I decided to get a little crazy and wore a dalmation printed Forever 21 top underneath. I think it definitely complimented the blazer. I wore a pair of dark jeans (my sister’s) and topped the outfit off with a silver Guess necklace, silver gemstone bracelets (different sizes) and dark gray Banana Republic gem flats.

This final outfit is another blazer outfit. I can’t help it, I’m obsessed! I chose a black and white striped French Connection shirt and threw a blue/black cropped school-uniformesqe (is that a word?) blazer over it. I decided on dark jeans from Gap, my Burberry watch and a chain bracelet from BCBG. As you can obviously see, at this point in the night, I had decided to remove my shoes but I went with my dark gray Banana Republic gem flats again.

Until next time! Hopefully by then I will have made changes to this blog!

A Year in Random Review

Most people would probably do their reviews in December or January. I don’t. I do them whenever I feel like it, and today is that day. I was just randomly thinking about how much has changed in the last year and how different my life is now.

At this I time last year, I had been at my previous job for a little over a month. After being there for a year, I decided to do something a little more PR focused and have now been at my new job for two weeks. I’m really excited about this new job because it will challenge me to learn new tactics and actually do PR, which is something I am really passionate about.

A big thing difference for me as well was (honestly)… I felt like I had no direction last year. I just kind of went from day to day without a real plan or goal. Now, I have a plan — granted it’s not a concrete plan but it’s a plan. I have a solid goal that I know I am trying to reach and can see myself a year down the road.

I like to think I’ve grown up a little as well. I think I’ve learned to accept that not everything is in my control. I have also worked towards keeping control of things that are in my control. I’m working on being more open and honest about my feelings, whether it be with my boss or my best friend. If something doesn’t sit right, I don’t have to shut up and take it all the time, but I do have to deal with it with maturity and not complain.

I understand that there are things in my life that I really want, and have started financially saving for them. I am also striving for things I can’t buy (personal growth, good health, general happiness with all the things I’m lucky to have).

I think it is important to mention that I am happy with my life as is. I know how unbelievable lucky I am to have a wonderful family, an interesting job, good friends and to just be alive. At the same time, I always tell my sister that you should never just be content with what you have. I like to strive to be more, learn more and give more. I don’t think there is anything wrong with wanting to get in shape, own a pair of Manolo Blahniks, get promoted at work and telling my parents I love them everyday. I am so lucky to have everyone in my life, I love them all.

I hope to have grown even more professionally and personally by this time next year. I’ll keep you guys filled in.

Until then… Just Smile… :)

Why Tuesday is My Day..

Happy Tuesday!!

I know most people say TGIF, but I’ve always said TGIT! For as long as I can remember, I have loved Tuesdays. Anyone who has ever spent a Tuesday with me, also knows I absolutely love Tuesdays!

I think it started back in 5th grade when I started reciting the Pledge of Allegiance on Tuesday mornings. I would wake up every Tuesday morning so unbelievably excited to get to school so I could read the Pledge of Allegiance over the school intercom for everyone in school to hear.Little did I know this would be early indicator of my love to be the center of attention and should have made it clear to my parents that I would either a) be a movie star or b) work in PR to keep people in the spotlight.

This is love of Tuesdays that stuck with me. In high school, I was asked to read the morning announcements and I chose to announce them on Tuesdays! I did it for two years and absolutely loved it! In the middle of my senior year, I was asked to announce on Monday mornings and to be honest, I always forgot and only realized it was my day to announce when I heard someone else do the announcements in my place.

I think it also helps that most of my favorite TV shows have always come on Tuesdays. The list includes (but is not limited to): Dawson’s Creek, Gilmore Girls, Buffy, Veronica Mars, Roswell and One Tree Hill. This kept me excited to have Tuesday arrive so I can see what Lorelai and Rory had going on that week.

I’m not saying every Tuesday of my life has been great. In fact, most haven’t. I’ve had a bunch of really sad things happen on Tuesdays. In fact, I’ve noticed most really great things happen to me on Thursdays.

Also on the flip side, anyone who works in public relations knows that Tuesdays are horrible. They are busy and usually require a little more than an 8 hour day. This is mostly because people are scrambling to get their press releases ready and hold events for Tuesday and Wednesday. Monday is a horrible day to do anything in PR because most people are still recovering from the weekend.

Even after all that, I still love Tuesdays. I always wear my best outfits on Tuesdays, I try to keep a positive attitude and I always do my best to wish everyone a happy Tuesday (ask my former colleagues).

Do any of you have a random favorite day of the week?

My Dream Dress

I’ve been doing my best to keep at this blog. When I actually post, I am really excited about it. But like everyone else in the world, I have a million other things going on and I get easily distracted. I promised myself to be better about acutally keeping you up to date on what is going on and I think I am doing a pretty decent job so far.

My friend got married two weeks ago and I used that as an opportunity to wear my dream dress! Now, I know what you are thinking… “sure… you are always looking for dresses, what makes this one so special?”

Well, I’ve been wanting this specific dress for months and couldn’t find it anywhere. I saw it online and had to have it, so of course I ordered it 3 times and went to numerous boutiques and NO ONE HAD IT! I’d been looking for it since June and finally found it in October. The last time I was this obsessed with a dress was my Sue Wong dress that I first saw on Pretty Little Liars. I mean come on… a girl is allowed to have a long and a short dream dress… right? Haha. The entire dress is turquiose with dark purple flowers on it. The top is full of gems that trail down the left side of the body. It caught my eye as soon as I saw it, even though I rarely wear patterned formal dresses. I added cap sleeves to it, as the dress was originally strapless.

The best part of the entire outfit was definitely my nails (of course). I took out all my nail polish and was able to find a perfect match to the base color and the flowers! On my fingers, I used “Turquoise and Caicos” by Essie with a “Vampsterdam” by OPI flower. On my toes, I did the opposite. I decided to do “Vampsterdam” as the base with a “Turquoise and Caicos” design. I think it looks pretty fun.

All in all, the wedding was a great time and I’m very excited for my friends. I know they will be very happy together and hope the best for them. I ran into her yesterday and she was very happy :).

Finally, my blog is getting a much needed makeover. I hope to have it all set up and ready to go by the end of the week. I hope you all will like it! It’s definitely a lot more colorful than what I have now (see I told you I am getting serious about this posting thing).

Happy Monday!

Empire State of Mind

My friend Shedz recently moved to New York City for an intership with the United Nations. That’s right… my friend works for the United Nations. I’m not sure how she got that job, but she is an extrememly intelligent lady and I’m very proud of her. This also worked out to my benefit, as I know had a reason to go to New York.

I decided to go visit her a few weeks ago and I’m glad I went. I had a great time! In a span of 24 hours, we crossed paths with Jerry O’Connell, Alan Rickman, William Shatner, an Olsen twin and Jimmy Fallon!

I desperately wanted to see the Lion King on Broadway but it was sold out, so Shedz and I decided to Seminar with Alan Rickman and Jerry O’Connell. It was quite amazing. Here’s my autographed Playbill!

All in all, I think I definitely will be visiting New York again in the next year. It was a lot of fun but I want to do more tourist attractions like the Statue of Liberty (which I did not even glimpse once while I was there), the Empire State Building and of course I want to spend more time in SoHo.
